Two Congregations, One Vision: Partnering for the Sake of the Gospel

Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, pastored by Rob Weller, and First Immanuel Lutheran Church (San Jose) entered a partnership in 2023 to apply for a vicar which would serve at both congregations. First Immanuel is vacant and the vision for the partnership was to be able to provide First Immanuel with consistent pastoral care. Shepherd of the Valley had a house that wasn't being used and was able to provide that housing for the vicar and First Immanuel was able to supply the other financial needs for the program. 

Weller and the vicar take turns serving at each congregation, thus allowing First Immanuel to receive the Sacrament at least twice a month. Once a month, to fulfill the supervision requirements of the program, the vicar and Weller will serve together at one of the congregations. Luther Cameron and Isaiah Mudge have come through the program and Benjamin Wagner is just beginning his year with us.

The partnership has allowed both congregations to see the larger picture of the Church and ministry. As the Synod struggles to meet the need for clergy, partnerships like this may be one possible solution.
