St. John’s Napa Celebrates Disability Awareness Sunday

ree

Like many congregations in the CNH District, St. John’s in Napa recognized September 28 as Disability Awareness Sunday. As part of the worship service, two songs were led by the Adults with Disabilities Bible Class along with some members of the church’s Adult Choir. The class members had also enjoyed a baking party on Saturday in preparation to host the fellowship hour on Sunday morning. They took great delight in honoring God by serving the congregation in worship and in fellowship!

The Adults with Disabilities class is composed of adults with developmental disabilities. They meet on the 2nd, 4th, and 5th Sundays a month from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. to grow in their knowledge of the Gospel and how much Jesus loves them. Their classes include opening prayer, singing, and the Bible lesson for that day. They discuss how the lesson applies to their lives and complete an art project related to the lesson. The class time ends with prayers for what they are concerned about. The group then joins their families and the congregation in the sanctuary for Holy Communion and the closing prayers. This is one way the church seeks to truly welcome and value all of God’s people!

The CNH District has a Disability Ministry Committee whose mission is “To equip the Church to reach out, include, and encourage full participation of people with disabilities and their families in the life of Christ’s Church.
