St. John's, Bakersfield Presents Bibles to Children's Center Families

ree

For two Sundays in July, the church courtyard buzzed with worshipers at St. John’s, Bakersfield stepping up to purchase children’s Bibles for preschoolers and kindergarteners enrolled in the church’s school and Children’s Center. Each person wrote their name on a personalized sticker for the student, as well as a prayer or favorite Bible verse. This was an idea that came out of the accreditation process both St. John’s Lutheran School and Children’s Center completed this past year.

On Thursday, August 27, every preschool student received their Bible at the end of chapel, and with it the reminder that the church community is praying for them and supporting them. This is the first year in doing this but will almost certainly become an ongoing tradition. In addition, the pastors are praying for different individual classrooms and teachers every Sunday worship service throughout the year, as well as praying for other schools and teachers in the community.

The smiles and sweet voices saying “thank you” said it all as the children returned to their seats to open their Bibles.

“…from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 3:15).
