Beyond the Scroll: A Decade of Discipleship in Ethiopia

Ten years ago, Reverend Muluneh Taye and his wife, Liya, planted a seed. They founded Reverend Muluneh Taye Ministries, a nonprofit devoted to discipling young adults and raising up the next generation of Christian leaders. A decade later, that seed has grown into a movement spanning cities across Ethiopia.

This year's outreach carried a message titled, "Beyond the Scroll: From Scrolling to Building." It was a call for young adults to set aside digital distraction and root their lives instead in Christ and His Word. 

The journey began in Addis Ababa, where 65 young adults gathered for the Beyond the Scroll discipleship conference, diving into biblical teaching on spiritual formation and faithful living. 

Later, 19 emerging leaders in the YES Leadership Program were trained to lead their churches and communities with Christ at the center.

Then came the Satchmo Center, where roughly 150 university students, young professionals, and business leaders heard about the  doctrine of vocation and explored how every Christian calling, whether in business, education, healthcare, government, or the home, is a vocation from God and an opportunity to faithfully serve our neighbors while bearing witness to Christ in everyday life.

The trip carried on to Adama, also known as Nazareth, where more than 200 people gathered for a discipleship meeting, and Reverend Taye preached to a midweek worship service with over 1,000 believers.

Redeeming Grace Lutheran Church and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he serves as pastor, partnered with this year's mission through their prayers, encouragement, and financial support. While the ministry has been serving for the past decade, the partnership of these congregations helped expand this year's outreach and its lasting impact.
