Zion Lutheran Church has served the greater Winnemucca area since 1957, and the preschool has been in operation since 1971. The church moved to its present location in 1994, expanding the preschool after the purchase of a home adjacent to the church’s property in 1997. The home was refurbished and renovated to serve as a child care center. Zion currently serves 90 children ranging from 3 to 5 in the school and up to 12 years old in the child care center. The pastor of Zion, Mark Kliewer has led the congregation and school since 1987 and has been a huge supporter of the early childhood program. He firmly believes in making Jesus an active part of a child’s life. The current Director, Jana Nettleton, has served the school since 2021. The school is served by a dedicated staff! The church is now in the process of determining how to best situate the school program to serve the Winnemucca community. This includes looking at the possibility of an infant and toddler program or even an elementary school in the form of a micro school.
