Specific Ministry Program (SMP)
The SMP program is designed for congregations who would not normally be able to call a pastor from either the seminary or another congregation, but who have identified someone within their own congregation whom they wish to receive the training necessary in order to serve as their pastor. This program involves a significant distance learning component combined with residence requirements at one of the church’s seminaries. For information regarding the SMP program at each seminary, please see the links below.

Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO, offers two opportunities for those serving in immigrant or Spanish-speaking congregations. For information about these programs please visit the seminary’s website.
Deacon Training
The CNH District Deacon program is designed for congregations not able to call an ordained pastor to serve them. Deacons are elected from within the congregation and are licensed by the District President to serve in word and sacrament ministry under the supervision of a local ordained pastor. The Deacon license is a one year, renewable license. For more information, please contact Pres. Michael Lange at prescnh@cnh-lcms.org.

Colloquy Program
The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod offers a colloquy program for ordained clergy from other denominations that wish to join and become rostered in the LCMS. This program is also available for other church workers serving in ministry (DCE’s and teachers) but not rostered in the LCMS. For more information, please contact Pres. Michael Lange.
