Kingdom Talk
We were all created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27), but we have our own strengths and interests. These character traits help us grow in our faith and be a witness to others, but what happens when we lose our identity?
The busyness of life can make us conform to others and in turn lose our way to recharge. How can we expect to be at our optimal level if we aren’t being constantly recharged? They can be journaling, praying, walking or any other activity that allows us to move away from the pulls of the world.
Colossians 2:6-7 says, “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
The only way to stay true to our created self is to be rooted in Jesus and recognize our identity as someone saved by His death and called to be a witness of His on earth. We will have many other labels throughout our life such as spouse, parent, worker, friend, etc. All of these categories are important and help make us who we are called to be. However, they are subheads to the overarching title of “God’s witness”
We just celebrated Jesus’ victory over death this past weekend. It is the cornerstone of our belief and a time where many feel the most alive in their faith. How do we keep this energy past Easter weekend? How do we show people there is more happening at church than big Easter Sunday services?
Things to try:
Engage in outreach/mission work that excites you: One of the really special things about God is how he has crafted each of us through our talents and experiences to reach all ends of the earth. Find out where you path takes you and get involved.
Challenge yourself: At times, we are frozen with inaction on how something in ministry will turn out. We are called to act boldly and where God calls us even if it is out of our comfort zone.
Foster mentoring relationships: It is easy to get sidetracked when we don’t have accountability. Finding the right mentor to pour into you and then in turn finding the right people you can pour into is how we turn to-do lists into real change in the world.
